We finally blew up the Dana 30!
After nearly 14 months with 37×12.50 Cooper STT Pro tires, a spartan locker, and stock yes stock axle shafts we sheered 9 teeth off of our 5.13 ring gear on our last Tri-State Trail Riders group ride at Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area
Check out the carnage in the photo gallery on the right –>
Our replacement axle is a 35 spline Dana 60 out of a 2006 Ford F350 SRW. We are running a Barnes4WD truss kit, high steer crossover arms, along with their 7/8″ x 7/8″ heims for booth steering and the track-bar.
Previously we were running a Surplus Center 1.5″x6″ hydraulic cylinder for assist so we will be upgrading to a PSC 1.75″ ram along with a modified Jeep Grand Cherokee (WJ) pump.
Wheels haven’t been decided but if we can re-drill out current steel wheels that will most likely be the plan to help keep costs down.
For gears we will be stepping up from the 5.13s to 5.38s.
Once the axle is complete and track width measurements are completed our rear axle (big bearing Ford 9″) will get a new housing and full float/8 lug conversion.
